I’ve switched to Drum Workshop! After five years with Pearl, I have decided to switch things up and try something new. I have had the opportunity to work with DW in the studio over the past couple of months and I have been very impressed with their resonance, tone, and ease of tuning. The choice was finalized after a trip to the factory in Oxnard, CA earlier this year. The amount of options, innovation, and quality control were more than impressive. Talking with drum guru John Good and sensing the dedication to pushing the envelope of drum manufacturing he possessed was inspirational. I’ve always been a fan of DW pedals, and the 23” Bass Drum rocks! Pearl makes a great product, and they always treated me like gold. But as a player this is a move that I have to make. Very excited to use these live and on the next album! I’ll post pictures when I get the kit!

So what's going on with Nickelback you wonder? I wonder too! We are certainly enjoying our time off. I know the other three guys haven't had more than a few weeks off in about 12 or so years, so they deserve it. So to dispel any rumors, we're not in the studio, we're not going on the road any time soon. We'll start sometime soon I'm sure, but just another little bit off would be nice. I've been busy myself doing a number of sessions in town. Working with the great singer/songwriter/producer Brian Howes, Chad always has different artists in his studio, and Danny Craig of Default is debuting as a producer. We were in the Warehouse studios working on some tunes with Canadian Idol runner up Chad Doucette, good times! Also working with a GREAT GREAT artist named Sherry St Germain. I can't wait to record with her, she is one talented singer/songwriter/pianist/trumpeter/guitarist!! It's nice to play some pocket R&B funk type stuff again, time to switch gears. Also collecting some vintage snares, found some yummy ones online. Good Lord they aren't cheap though! The NAMM show was a blast this year, though its all a blur, the beer goggles tend to come out that weekend. Thanks to all my sponsors for the hospitality. And I've started piano lessons, yes ladies and gentlemen, maybe by the time we hit the road I'll be able to make my way through Three Blind Mice!

Well I thought I had December off but I got the call to do the latest Thornley album, I had to jump at that! I've always been a fan of Big Wreck and Ian's solo work and I was honored to get the call. The producer, Nick Raskulinecz just did the latest Rush album and had a bunch of great stories, got to use Neil's old kit for the session woo hoo! Great songs, everybody should buy a copy! No now, it's time for time off, until the next something shows up, which will probably be in January! Merry Xmas everybody!
